One of my favourite books to read is Stickman by Julia Donaldson, there is the fun element for the children with the different paths that Stick man goes on and the different elements of the weather and still get that happy ending of getting home to his family for Christmas. I've a large family all spread out now but the one time we always get together is Christmas so this story always makes me think of all my family.

One of my favourite children's books is Alfie Gets in First by Shirley Hughes. I love all the stories about Alfie and Annie Rose but this is my favourite. It's a simple story about Alfie coming home from the shops with his mum and slamming the door shut with Alfie inside and mum and the keys on the outside. One thing I love about this book is the illustrations. They tell so much of the story not written in the words, like the window cleaner who gradually works his way up the street on each page and the people who come out of their houses to see what is going on. Shirley Hughes is a great author but an even better illustrator because her pictures tell so much more of the story.

Reading is one of my favourite things to do- it is a magic door to another land when you open the pages. I love books with a little mystery, ones that keep you on the edge of your seat unable to put it down. I read a new book, sometimes more than one, a week! My favourite book is ' The Changeover', a big sister has to save her brother and it's full of intrigue.

I like the books from the harry and the dinosaur collection, they remind me of reading with my sons when they were young. I like reading them to the children in nursery as they get so excited by the stories.

 Spring Term

During our spring term we will be again following the children's lead for their learning. We never know where this might take us, however we are keen for them to be the leaders in their learning and bring as much as possible for them to experience.

So far over the spring term we have looked at what patterns are, how they are made and that we can see them everywhere - We explored why they are important, like for a bridge, both sides being the same so that the bridge is useable. We have then linked this to stories that we enjoy like The Three Billy Goafs. We went out into the school environment and looked for different patterns and the children were able to find lots!

We have been doing lots of turn taking listening games, this is developing our listening and attention skills that are so very important in all our learning. Being able to hear and identify sounds that we cant see is a life long skill to develop, so by doing sound lotto games, we are developing these skills.

In the next part of the spring term we will be joining in with Science week, We will be planting seeds, making butter, making grass heads and changing the colour of flowers just to name a few of the activities that we have planned. This will involve the children learning about adapting and changing. Alongside this we will be planting vegetables in our nursery garden to watch them grow and develop our understanding of where our food comes from.

We will continue to introduce the children to different Phonetic sounds that help them build their word knowledge, We look at these of the purpose of hearing the initial sound in the children's names and then using the rhymes to develop the skills they have in forming recognisable letters.
