Nursery - Year N

One of my favourite books to read is Stickman by Julia Donaldson, there is the fun element for the children with the different paths that Stick man goes on and the different elements of the weather and still get that happy ending of getting home to his family for Christmas. I've a large family all spread out now but the one time we always get together is Christmas so this story always makes me think of all my family.

One of my favourite children's books is Alfie Gets in First by Shirley Hughes. I love all the stories about Alfie and Annie Rose but this is my favourite. It's a simple story about Alfie coming home from the shops with his mum and slamming the door shut with Alfie inside and mum and the keys on the outside. One thing I love about this book is the illustrations. They tell so much of the story not written in the words, like the window cleaner who gradually works his way up the street on each page and the people who come out of their houses to see what is going on. Shirley Hughes is a great author but an even better illustrator because her pictures tell so much more of the story.

Reading is one of my favourite things to do- it is a magic door to another land when you open the pages. I love books with a little mystery, ones that keep you on the edge of your seat unable to put it down. I read a new book, sometimes more than one, a week! My favourite book is ' The Changeover', a big sister has to save her brother and it's full of intrigue.

I like the books from the harry and the dinosaur collection, they remind me of reading with my sons when they were young. I like reading them to the children in nursery as they get so excited by the stories.

Autumn term

During the Autumn term we will be welcoming new children and families to BBeebies.  This is a massive step for everyone involved so we have a focus on getting to know the children, their families and allowing them to get to know us.

We will be spending time exploring our setting and the toys we have on offer, the activities that we love to get involved in and exploring the outside areas that we have available to us.

During the Autumn term, as well as getting to know the children, we also look at peer relationships and introduce children to their peers with similar interests, this aiding with the settling in process and giving the children starting blocks of making strong peer relationships.

During all of these interactions, the children will be learning about themselves, each other with their differences and similarities. We will be exploring numbers, shapes and following the children's interests to expand and encourage learning.

We will be looking at different areas of learning over the Autumn term, things like Harvest festival,  Diwali (The  Hindu Sikhs festival of light), fireworks and then heading into winter with preparations and learning about Christmas and why it is important to Christians.
